vB Code List

vB Code
vB code is a set of tags based on the HTML language that you may already be familiar with. They allow you to add formatting to your messages in the same way as HTML does, but have a simpler syntax and will never break the layout of the pages you are viewing. The ability to use vB Code is set on a forum-by-forum basis by the administrator, so you should check the forum rules when you post a new message. Below is a list of the vB Codes you can use to format your messages.

Incorrect vB Code Usage: [url] www.vbulletin.com [/url] - don't put spaces between the bracketed code and the text you are applying the code to. [email]myname@domain.com[email] - the end brackets must include a forward slash ([/email])

Bold / Italic / Underline
The [b], [i] and [u] tags allow you to create text that is bold, italic and underlined.
Usage	[b]value[/b] [i]value[/i] [u]value[/u]
Example Usage	[b]this text is bold[/b] [i]this text is italic[/i] [u]this text is underlined[/u]
Example Output	this text is bold this text is italic this text is underlined

Color
The [color] tag allows you to change the color of your text.
Usage	[color=Option]value[/color]
Example Usage	[color=blue]this text is blue[/color]
Example Output	this text is blue

Highlight
The [highlight] tag allows you to emphasize your text.
Usage	[highlight]value[/highlight]
Example Usage	[highlight]this text is highlighted[/highlight]

Left / Right / Center
The [left], [right] and [center] tags allow you to change the alignment of your text.
Usage	[left]value[/left] [center]value[/center] [right]value[/right]

Indent
The [indent] tag allows you to indent your text.

Email Linking
The [email] tag allows you to link to an email address. You can include an optional parameter to 'name' your link.
Usage	[email]value[/email] [email=Option]value[/email]
Example Usage	[email]myname@domain.com[/email] [email=myname@domain.com]Click Here to Email Me[/email]

URL Hyperlinking
The [url] tag allows you to link to other websites and files. You can include an optional parameter to 'name' your link.
Usage	[url]value[/url] [url=Option]value[/url]

Thread Linking
The [thread] tag allows you to link to threads by specifying the thread id. You can include an optional parameter to 'name' your link.
Usage	[thread]threadid[/thread] [thread=threadid]value[/thread]
Example Usage	[thread]42918[/thread] [thread=42918]Click Me![/thread] (Note: The threadid/postid is just an example and may not link to a valid thread/post.)
Example Output	http://www.aud.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=42918 Click Me!

Post Linking
The [post] tag allows you to link to posts by specifying the post id. You can include an optional parameter to 'name' your link.
Usage	[post]postid[/post] [post=postid]value[/post]
Example Usage	[post]269302[/post] [post=269302]Click Me![/post] (Note: The threadid/postid is just an example and may not link to a valid thread/post.)

Bulleted Lists
The [list] tag allows you to create simple, bulleted lists without specifying an option. Within the value portion, each bullet is denoted by the [*] tag.
Usage	[list]value[/list]
Example Usage	[list] []list item 1 []list item 2 [/list]
Example Output	list item 1 list item 2

Advanced Lists
The [list] tag allows you to create advanced lists by specifying an option. The option should have a value of 1 (for a numbered list) or A (for an alphabetic with capital letters list) or a (for an alphabetic with lowercase letters list) or I (for a numbered with capital Roman numeral list) or i (for a numbered with small Roman numeral list).
Usage	[list=Option]value[/list]
Example Usage	[list=1] []list item 1 []list item 2 [/list] [list=a] []list item 1 []list item 2 [/list]

Images
The [img] tag allows you to embed images within your posts. You can also combine this tag with the [url] tag to make images become links.
Usage	[img]value[/img]
Example Usage	[img]http://www.aud.org.uk/forum/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif[/img] (Not linked) [url=http://www.vbulletin.com] [img]http://www.aud.org.uk/forum/images/statusicon/forum_new.gif[/img] [/url] (Linked)

Code
The [code] tag switches to a fixed-width (monospace) font and preseves all spacing.
Usage	[code]value[/code]
Example Usage	[code] <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- alert("Hello world!"); //--> </script> [/code]
Example Output	Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- alert("Hello world!"); //--> </script>

PHP Code
The [php] tag performs the same function as the [code] tag, but also adds syntax highlighting for PHP code. Although it is designed for PHP, it may correctly highlight some other C-like languages.
Usage	[php]value[/php]
Example Usage	[php] $myvar = 'Hello World!'; for ($i = 0; $i < 10; $i++) { echo $myvar . "\n"; } [/php]

HTML Code
The [html] tag allows you to perform syntax highlighting for HTML code.
Usage	[html]value[/html]
Example Usage	[html] <img src="image.gif" alt="image" /> <a href="testing.html" target="_blank">Testing</a> [/html]

Quote

The [quote] tag allows you to attribute text to someone else.

Stop vB Code Parsing
The [noparse] tag allows you to stop the parsing of vB Code.
Usage	[noparse][b]value[/b][/noparse]
Example Usage	[noparse][b]vBulletin[/b][/noparse]
Example Output	[b]vBulletin[/b]

Attachment
The [attach] tag allows you to display an attachment in your post rather than at the bottom. It will only display attachments that belong to the post in which it is utilized.
Usage	[attach]attachmentid[/attach]

Incorrect Response - Show Cross
This can be used for example with a multiple response quiz. Just put the [cross] bbcode opening and closing tags around the response to get a cross, if the user selects this option. The opposite tag to this is [tick].
Usage	[cross]value[/cross]
Example Usage	[cross]b. There are 12 electrons in a C atom.[/cross]
Example Output	b. There are 12 electrons in a C atom.

Incorrect Response - Show Cross & Note
You can add brief note, to follow the cross, by including it in the opening bbcode tag eg. [cross=my note]. This can be to give the reason for this being correct.
Usage	[cross=Option]value[/cross]
Example Usage	[cross=The number of protons and electrons add to 12.]There are 12 electrons in a C atom[/cross]
Example Output	There are 12 electrons in a C atom

More Info
This can be used to give further information for a word or phrase when you point at it. This results in a box (tool-tip appearing containing more information as specified by you. For example it can be used to give additional description for a word or phrase, or it can even be used as in to hide a short answer until pointed at. Please keep the further informaion brief as some browsers (such as Firefox) will only show one line of text (max 12 words).
Usage	[info=Option]value[/info]

Refresh / Reset Page
Just put the opening and closing bbcode tags before and after some link text that you have written. Clicking this will reset the page so anything like user revealed answers or additional information will be removed (hidden again).
Usage	[refresh]value[/refresh]
Example Usage	[refresh]Hide any visible answers.[/refresh]
Example Output	Hide any visible answers.

Reveal Answer - on click
A clickable link to reveal the answer will be automatically generated. Clicking on the given link text marked 'reveal answer' will replace the link text with the answer. Once viewed to hide all the revealed answer(s) again on a thread you will need to use the refresh button on the browser or put in the bbcode for refresh page around some text explaining what it is for.

Reveal Stuff - on click
Here clicking on the link defined by you will replace the link text with the answer. This is similar to the reveal answer but in this case the words in the link to click are defined by you within the opening [revealstuff] tag.

Subscript
Allows subscript. This is useful for chemical and mathematical formulas.
Usage	[sub]value[/sub]
Example Usage	H[sub]2[/sub]O is the chemical symbol for water.
Example Output	H₂O is the chemical symbol for water.

Superscript
Allows superscript. This is useful for mathematical equations.
Usage	[sup]value[/sup]
Example Usage	2[sup]3[/sup] = 8
Example Output	2³ = 8

Correct Response - Show Tick
This can be used for example with a multiple response quiz. Just put the [tick] bbcode opening and closing tags around the response to get a tick, if the user selects this option. The opposite tag to this is [cross].
Usage	[tick]value[/tick]
Example Usage	[tick]a. there are 6 electrons in a C atom[/tick]
Example Output	a. there are 6 electrons in a C atom

Correct Response - Show Tick & Note
You can add brief note, to follow the tick, by including it in the opening bbcode tag eg. [tick=my note]. This can be to say well done and or to give the reason for this being correct.

YouTube
Allows YouTube videos to be embedded in a post. Just write out the ID number for the video and then put the [youtube] before the ID number and [/youtube] after the ID number
